Networking Muse | 1st August, 2008 | If This Is Work, Bring It On! ...

I am told that to be successful in business you need to have a passion for what you do.  Well, let me tell you I have a real passion for our business and if this is work ... bring it on!  Last week I joined Regina MacDonald and 30 of her members at Ascot for a wonderful afternoon at the races, I even came away a winner!  Notwithstanding the opportunity to meet many more Athena members than I would normally have the pleasure of doing I was £6 up for the day.

On Wednesday I spent the day at Champney's in Tring.  Sylvia Baldock had arranged a spa day for her members to include a treatment and lunch at Champney's.  It's not that I am greedy, I am adopting my policy that a creative mind needs to be pampered! and I have booked an additional 'East Meets West' treatment in the afternoon ... bliss!  The day was rounded off wonderfully with a glass of pink champagne, Sylvia certainly knows the way to our heart.

Anyone watching us might be forgiven for thinking that both of those events were a day out for the ladies but let me tell you that both of them were an excellent example of networking in the most effective way.  I heard strategic connections being made, promises of referrals to be passed (and evidence afterwards as I received them) and some pretty inspirational ideas of how new products could be developed and businesses launched

All this relaxation is probably most timely as I shall be hiding away for August with the project team for 'Athena Connect' the social network for Athena members and ladies who are not able to attend our meetings but can see us more online.

Be kind to your mind this summer, take some time out and you will find yourself invigorated and ready to go again, me, well I am looking forward to the next blissful event one of our Regional Directors hosts!

To Our Success,

'Athena Connect' - Launching The New Athena Social Network

From 1st September, 2008 you will be able to network with other members online, each week there will be three featured members who's businesses are profiled, you can stay up-to-date with news, find out about upcoming events, visit your group homepages, submit notes and photos, maintain your personal profile page at your convenience, and much more!

This will be the ultimate destination when you are barefoot in the office and you still want to connect.  Access to Athena Connect is included in Athena membership, just another benefit of joining an Athena group.

'Integrity' Is Hitting The Market Place - Julia Williams

What is this word ‘integrity’ which is being used more and more frequently in the world of commerce?  As we are not quite sure how to define it, is it going the same route as ‘holistic’ and ‘organic’ to be overused and distorted from the purity of its essential meaning?  Julia Williams, a member of the Athena Hampstead group, observes that language itself is losing its integrity as original meanings are changing and distorting, through texting and cross-cultural additions.

Those who are less interested in the original meaning of words interpret them according to their own values and create new variations. There is nothing wrong here. With the same exciting creativity they/we also add to the ever changing band wagon of the latest buzzwords whose meaning only carries the latest narrow slant for those first in the know.  But how do we communicate with clarity?  To read more click here ...

Breaking A New Market - Kirsten Gronning

Who hasn’t had a good idea and then let it quietly fade away again when faced with the magnitude of developing that same idea into a workable concept? But friends confirm it is a brilliant idea and help you develop it over a bottle of wine. You scribble on the back of envelopes; they send you names of people who can help; you do the maths and contact Business Link. You dream of chucking in the day job and working for yourself – and get scared.

What makes me think I can turn this into a viable business? Where will I find the energy? How much will it cost?  To read more click here ...

How To Munch The Credit Crunch - Vee Smith

Media headlines are clamouring about the Credit Crunch, inflation and how we are all heading for recession, (or not, depending on who’s side you’re on), as well as the impact the American instigated contraction of credit has had on the business community here in the UK. Indeed, panic in the world financial markets has led to sharp falls in share and house prices.

How should we business owners be preparing our businesses for the inevitable lean times ahead? In nature, lack of food and water – famine, naturally sift out the strong, leaving the weak to die. We call it survival of the fittest. To survive famine in business it’s about being lean and streamlined.  To read more click here ...

New Athena Groups Launching

Anyone who ever attends an Athena launch meeting cannot fail to be amazed at the energy that exudes in the room.  There is something exciting and dynamic about launching in a new area that has ladies in an absolute state of frenzy as they endeavour to support each other to develop their businesses.

Several new Regional Directors have joined the Athena team and will be launching their groups in September and October.  Directors who have had extremely successful launches with their current groups are all all fired up and good to go at the same time.  Groups are launching in Tring (at Champney's ... where else!), Hammersmith, Chelsea, Notting Hill (beg as we might Tanja will not be inviting Hugh Grant).  Do have a look at the Athena website for full details at www.theathenanetwork.com and you will see a menu of groups launching on the right hand side.

Why Franchising Attracts Female Entrepreneurs

Is it time to take charge of your future and really be in control of your destiny?  If you’ve thought about business ownership, or setting up an additional business, – but something has stopped you from moving forward. Was it lack of experience? Couldn’t think of a unique concept that would compete with established brands? Fear of the unknown? If so, you are not alone.

That’s why so many women have turned to franchising. When you buy a franchise, you have help setting up and running your business. The concept and brand name are established and recognisable by the public. And there are experts to “hold your hand” and answer any questions along the way.

For many women, owning a franchise can be the easiest way to achieve their dream of business ownership. No one claims that every franchisee is successful; however your comfort level will be greatly increased if you follow a tried-and-true system instead of building something from scratch.  To read more about the Athena Franchise Opportunity and how you can join our expanding team of ordinary women doing exceptional things click here
